And while Trump tried to apply pressure to the Fed, our system is supposed to allow the Fed to be independent.
You see, the problem is that a president would feel urgency to get the Fed to do things in the president's short-term interests. In other words, to get re-elected. Trump at present wants to blame Biden for inflation because he'll do and say anything to simply get back into power. I will repeat: "Can't you all see?"
How many times do the sensible people among us have to issue warnings? We warn that Trump is merely a "performance artist" who down deep is a demagogue. He speaks constantly at his rallies and gets his name into the top headlines every day. His mug is put in front of us constantly. He needs to escape his tremendous legal woes. You don't really believe the woes simply come from prosecutors out to get him, do you? Isn't his misconduct on so many fronts totally documented?
How long does this nightmare have to continue for America? One of my fears is that it will continue until we see an uprising from the political left. This will happen as it always does when the so-called masses become aggrieved enough. Aggrieved about the everyday cost of things. I wouldn't blame them. We could have listened to Bernie Sanders more in 2016 and we'd be a lot better off today.
Trump is so irrational with so many of the things he says now, one must question if there's a judgment to be made that he has "talent." As a demagogue, to really have talent would mean you'd have to make some arguments that are at least close to the truth. In a sane society Trump would be marginalized by now. He'd still be famous. He'd still be able to get attention because this has been a learned behavior of his all his life.
At present he has clearly become so ridiculous, he should be a curiosity, belonging squarely in the realm of "reality TV" or "reality Internet bulls--t."

Ridiculous as so much of this is - "let's crush a bipartisan border deal" - it has reach. As does Donald Trump. And so in spite of the apparent insanity coming from the preponderance of conservative voices, we realize that Trump is the prohibitive favorite for the Republican Party nomination.
But the Republican Party looks nothing like it once did, n'est-ce pas? Oh, remember when the Republican Party had a nice big formal convention with its delegates? Pretty much like the Democrats who always follow protocol. Today it's all Trump as if there is no reasonable discussion, just masses of people turning out for the Trump rallies which media entities like "Newsmax" salivate over. Can't get enough of it!
Can you think of one single "rally" that Dean Phillips has spoken to? So there's nothing like an even playing field and maybe I wouldn't care if the voters out here in rural western Minnesota would just tap their logic. They cannot. The election of '24 is getting ever closer and with Trump still not having paid a legal price for his worst wrongdoing: his efforts to destroy democracy and to seize power Putin-style.
But we here in western Minnesota get dispatches from our congressperson warning us not about this, but alerting us rather to how we need to consider impeachment of Biden. And so I hear the more elderly men of these parts echoing this and putting down Biden for being stupid and senile and you know how it all goes. They listen to the likes of Glenn Beck: Biden is to blame for inflation. No nuance in the consideration of that at all. It's just Biden bad, Trump good, and we'd solve inflation with Trump back in power.
Focus on the Fed
Regardless of how the economic winds blow, we cannot accept such simplistic judgment. The main finger-pointing must always be with this thing called "the Fed." The very existence of our country could be imperiled if Trump seizes control of the Fed. Certainly you're aware that Trump and his goons like Steve Bannon are going to want to seize control of everything. An outright autocracy which would I'm sure have the blessing of our congressperson Michelle Fischbach, even though she wouldn't set things forth in those terms. Congressperson Fischbach voted against certifying the 2020 election results, and not even Tom Emmer did that. So she is an absolute full-fledger. Is there any way she could lose to a Democrat? No.
So you'd better be prepared to have "the talk" with your young children about how life in America may change drastically. And your votes will have made this happen.
Ubiquitous
The absurdities about Trump are hung up to dry in front of you every single day, even at 4 a.m. Saturday as I check Internet news. Here's a current heading for a story on "Mediaite": "Fox News host cuts into Trump rally to torpedo laundry list of false claims." Fox News? So even Fox News is trying to warn us now? And y'all have trouble listening? Have trouble recognizing this clear "firebell in the night?"
Will people like me be sent to "re-education camps" someday? Perhaps never to be seen again? We have made our bed - you know what comes next.
Nikki Haley doesn't have a chance? Not a snowball's chance in wherever? It's over. I don't even want to know what will happen to Biden if he loses, the draconian measures enacted by the likes of Bannon versus him. He may just "disappear" or have an "accident" like falling out of a balcony. Trump will have learned these tricks from his BFF Putin.
A pessimistic comment I submitted to Yahoo! News on Thursday:
Trump will never be "cornered" on any of these legal matters. It is baked into the cake. He will rise to the presidency again and then the U.S. will have lost its critical mass. Is Trump really going to appeal based on "cruel and unusual punishment?" I wouldn't bet against him, because he's like a cat that always lands on its feet. Oh, with the help of lawyers wearing suits and ties, or in the case of Alina Habba, she's "hot." And the media just smiles about that. In the end, Trump is entertainment but behind our backs he is treacherous. It may be too late. And if it's too late, why am I even typing this?
"JCB" responded:
You are typing it because it's not too late and Trump isn't some genius who can get out of every problem he has. The lawyers are incompetent, especially Alina Habba. By the way she's not hot. He already fired her for losing the case because he said he is interviewing other lawyers for the appeal which definitely has no chance of going anywhere.
"David M." responded:
Cool story except one thing: 25 % of Repubs say they won't vote for him now. Game over.
