Seductive, popular |
These are the kind of times we are in. A president-elect having been found responsible for sexual assault. Do we even want children to be exposed to these reports? Minnesota is still a "blue" state so we don't have to anticipate losing access to the "Pornhub" website. But since when do pols get the power to remove sites from the web? Might this be the classic "slippery slope?"
What percentage of the public do you suppose is quite good with the existence of "Pornhub?" Imagine trying to explain Pornhub to the typical American of a past time, pre-digital.
Republican-led states one by one are getting the site excised. So we return, of course, to the old argument of "what is porn?" Don't we learn that there is no satisfactory resolution there? Reminds me of reviving the old arguments about abortion. The Supreme Court with DJT's appointees opened that up again.
Porn. Abortion. And Republicans profess to be all about "freedom." They attack porn and strive to limit women's choices with their bodies. If the subject of sex makes conservatives squirm so much, then how come they put up with Gaetz in their flock for so long? Unsavory rumors about him persisted. There had to be a "there" there. And now we know for a fact there was. It is vividly spelled out in the report released yesterday.
Doug Burgum |
Our congressperson Michelle Fischbach just recently put a paragraph in her email newsletter emphasizing how Joe Biden had been found to be in possession of "classified documents." It appears Mike Pence violated in the same way as Biden - not a cardinal sin in the eyes of the DOJ. That's based on circumstances and intent. There was no obstinence or refusal by these two to cooperate. "Things happen." People at their level deal in high-level stuff all the time.
Quite obviously, DJT's offense was on a far different and more serious level. Do I have to point this out? And if I do, is there any hope for our congressional district or for our nation as a whole?
People have a hard time seeing "false equivalence." Or to correct, they'll only see one side based on partisan blinders. That's our congressperson, Fischbach, plus the North Dakota guy Doug Burgum. Burgum ran for president but could not generate "Burgum-mentum." Fischbach and Burgum remain totally aligned with DJT.
For perspective
Double standard of justice? Have you been pulled over to get a traffic ticket? Treated in a rude and condescending way by a uniform-wearing cop? Left with a sense of no recourse? Well, we accept that, grudgingly to an extent. I remember when MSNBC's Chris Matthews was reacting to all the pro-cop talk on Fox News, the competitor to MSNBC. We love cops all the time, right? Matthews looked into the camera and said "if a cop pulls me over for a speeding ticket, I don't like that cop."
Matthews often broke through group-think in this way. Another example was when he started getting tired of the endlessly bull market tone of "business news," news which is sponsored incidentally by interests from "financial services." Well what would you expect them to say? Hell I can understand this. And Matthews could too. So he got a little exasperated one day and said "are you always supposed to buy (stocks)? Are you ever supposed to sell?" Do we ever hear any of the Jim Cramers or Dave Ramseys say "it's time to sell?"
I admit stocks have had a very good run. Spanning years really. But I have never accepted that stocks are "the only way to go" or are totally safe. I can't.
The "little guy" vs. Gaetz et al.
Look at the district court report and see all the names of people who got "caught" for a variety of things. They have to pay up. To challenge most of this stuff would be a fool's errand. You might get laughed at. Now let's look at Matt Gaetz who happened to be in the rarefied air of D.C. politics. How high? High enough to be put forward as attorney general nominee by the incoming president.
Attorney general of the United States of America. And what did we learn about Gaetz yesterday? Does this stuff really have to be floated out over the American public on the day before Christmas Eve? Ronald Reagan or his wife Nancy would have issued an inspiring wholesome message for the American people at Christmas. The Republicans of today are from a different bolt of cloth.
I have written about this continuously but I cannot break through out here in western Minnesota. Today I try again.
Matt Gaetz, would-be attorney general of U.S. |
And Republicans act like they're offended by "Pornhub?" They act like our public libraries must be gone through with a fine tooth comb for removing "objectionable" material, material that might be said to appeal to "prurient" interests? Do I have to tell you that Republicans are simply against libraries because they are funded by the public? You all have got to start realizing this stuff. Along with the fact that DJT likes to put "joke" nominees for cabinet positions out there as a way of diminishing all but the executive branch which is himself. There's an obvious pattern of him simply disrespecting the legislative branch. Why do you think the capitol was so vulnerable on J-6?
DJT wants "toady" cabinet members because he knows they are compromised. They will bend the knee to him and be subservient to him. His end game is to be the true autocratic leader of the U.S. with no one standing in his way. I keep trying to ring alarm bells on this Christmas Eve Day when peace is supposed to reign.
Please consider my perspective on all this. It might be too late already. Gaetz could even win a new election in Florida. Which would mean, actually, that the American experiment is over. And be sure to pay your traffic ticket fines, pilgrims.
